AI Visibility Score

Deep dive into the four scoring categories and how to improve each.

Last updated: January 20, 2026

The AI Visibility Score is Prominara's proprietary metric that predicts how likely your content is to be cited by AI search engines. It's calculated from 40+ signals across four categories.

How It Works

When you scan a URL, our engine analyzes the page content, structure, and technical implementation. Each signal is scored and weighted based on our research into what AI systems prioritize when selecting sources.

Content Structure (30%)

AI systems need to parse and extract information efficiently. Well-structured content gets cited more often.

Key Factors

  • Heading hierarchy - Single H1, logical H2/H3 structure
  • Answer positioning - Direct answers in first 100 words
  • Scannable formatting - Lists, tables, and short paragraphs
  • Question-answer format - FAQ-style content performs well

How to Improve

  • Use question-based H2 headings
  • Lead with the answer, then provide context
  • Break up long paragraphs (aim for 3-4 sentences max)
  • Use bullet points for lists of 3+ items

Entity & Topic Signals (25%)

AI systems cite content that contains specific, verifiable information.

Key Factors

  • Named entities - Specific people, companies, products
  • Statistics - Numbers, percentages, data points
  • Definitions - Clear explanations ("X is..." or "X refers to...")
  • Comprehensiveness - Thorough coverage of the topic

How to Improve

  • Include specific statistics with sources
  • Define key terms within your content
  • Mention relevant entities by name
  • Cover related subtopics comprehensively

Authority Signals (25%)

AI systems trust content from authoritative sources.

Key Factors

  • Author attribution - Named author with credentials
  • Publication dates - Clear publish and update timestamps
  • External citations - References to authoritative sources
  • Schema markup - Structured data for Article, Author, Organization

How to Improve

  • Add author bylines with expertise indicators
  • Display publication and last-updated dates
  • Cite reputable sources and research
  • Implement comprehensive Schema markup

Technical Readiness (20%)

Technical issues can completely block AI discovery.

Key Factors

  • AI crawler access - robots.txt allows GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot
  • Page speed - Fast load times
  • Semantic HTML - Proper use of HTML5 elements
  • Mobile optimization - Responsive design

How to Improve

  • Update robots.txt to allow AI crawlers
  • Optimize images and minimize JavaScript
  • Use semantic HTML elements (article, section, nav)
  • Implement llms.txt at your domain root
Many websites unknowingly block AI crawlers. Check your robots.txt to ensure GPTBot, ClaudeBot, and PerplexityBot have access to your content.
