Missions

Missions rank your tracked prompts by priority and give each one a next step. What the statuses mean, where missions come from and how to work through one.

Last updated

Missions is a ranked list of what to do next for a brand. Each mission is one tracked prompt, shown with whether AI answers cite you for it, the page on your site that should answer it, the third-party sources those answers use, and one suggested next step. Open it from Missions in the sidebar.

What a Mission Shows

  • Priority - A score out of 100 with a label: Critical (90 and above), High (75 to 89), Useful (50 to 74), Backlog (25 to 49) or Monitor (below 25). The score combines visibility gap (how rarely answers cite you), page gap (how far you are from having a strong page for the prompt), source gap and ease, with visibility gap counting most. Hover the badge to see the breakdown.
  • Visibility - Each platform the prompt was checked on in the last 28 days, marked cited, not cited or not shown. Not shown means the platform showed no AI answer in any of those checks, for example no AI Overview on Google.
  • Primary page - The page matched to the prompt, with its page status.
  • Source gap - None, Low, Medium or High, set by the highest-scoring source opportunity linked to the prompt. Finished or dismissed opportunities don't count.
  • Status - Where the work stands. See Mission Statuses below.
  • Next best move - The suggested step. See Working a Mission below.

The tiles at the top of the page count active missions: Missions, Critical, To review (page status Needs review) and Source gaps (Medium or High). Click a tile to filter the table. You can also filter the table by priority, status, page status and source gap, or search it by prompt text.

Page Status

  • Primary - The page that answers this prompt, either matched with a high score or set by you. A prompt has one Primary page.
  • Candidate - A page that matches the prompt but is not confirmed as primary.
  • Needs review - A possible match waiting for your decision. The page filter calls this Review.
  • No owner - No page on your site matches the prompt.
  • Excluded - You excluded every candidate page, so the mission suggests a new page.

Mission Statuses

Prominara sets the first four as you work. Snoozing and dismissing are up to you.

  • New - Nothing has started. Every mission starts here, and returns here when a snooze ends or you reactivate it.
  • In progress - You opened a New mission in Content AI, for example with Create page brief or Write manually.
  • Shipped - A change was logged against the prompt.
  • Measuring - Prominara recrawled the page after a logged change and found a real change on the live page.
  • Snoozed - You chose Snooze 7 days. After seven days the mission returns as New.
  • Dismissed - You chose Dismiss. The mission stays dismissed until you choose Reactivate.

Snooze 7 days, Dismiss and Reactivate are in the three-dot menu on a table row and at the top of a mission page.

Snoozed and Dismissed missions are left out of the table and the tiles. Pick the status in the Status filter to see them.

A mission has no finished status. It stays on the list while its prompt is active. Its next best move is worked out separately from its status, so a Shipped mission can still suggest another step.

Where Missions Come From

You don't create missions yourself. Every active Discovery prompt on a brand has one mission, so adding a Discovery prompt adds a mission and pausing the prompt takes it off the list. Your brand and Comparison prompts have no mission. See Prompt Tracking for the three types.

Prominara fills in each mission from three places:

  • Checks - The prompt's check results from the last 28 days set its visibility.
  • Your site - Pages found when your site is analyzed are scored against each prompt. The score decides the page status.
  • Sources - An opportunity from Sources is linked to a prompt when its source appeared in that prompt's AI answers.

Page matches and source links refresh after a site analysis, after prompts are checked, and once a day. A page you set as primary or exclude stays that way through each refresh.

A mission appears as soon as its prompt is added. Until the first check and site analysis finish it can read Not checked yet and No owner, even when a page on your site answers the prompt, so its priority and next step can change.

If the page shows Start tracking prompts, the brand has no active prompts. If it shows No missions to surface yet, the brand has active prompts but none of them is a Discovery prompt.

Working a Mission

  1. Open Missions. The table is sorted by priority, and the Next best move card above it shows the top mission.
  2. Click a prompt in the table, or View mission on the card, to open the mission page.
  3. On the Overview tab, read Next best move. Why now says why this step comes first. Expect describes what usually follows and is not a guarantee.
  4. Click the button on the card and do the step. The steps are listed below.
  5. Publish the change on your site.
  6. Record it. If you worked in Content AI, click Mark as shipped at the top of the editor. If you made the change elsewhere, open the Changes tab and click Log change manually. The mission moves to Shipped and a before-and-after measurement starts.
  7. If the change has a page URL, Prominara recrawls the page. A real change shows as Verified and moves the mission to Measuring. If the page looks the same, the change shows No live change detected and the mission stays Shipped. Follow the result on the Measure page.

Next Best Move

Prominara picks the first of these that applies to the mission:

  • Fix brand facts - A linked accuracy issue conflicts with this prompt. Opens the Accuracy tab on Sources.
  • Create page brief - No page on your site covers the prompt, or you excluded every candidate. Opens a page brief in Content AI. On the mission page, Write manually opens the editor without a brief.
  • Pick the primary page - A likely page match is waiting. Click Set primary or Exclude on the mission page.
  • Improve page - A candidate page exists, but it has not been scanned or its AI readiness score is below 60. Opens the page in Content AI. On the mission page, Edit manually opens the editor without a brief.
  • Build source playbook - The prompt has a Primary page and its source gap is Medium or High. Opens the Source plays tab.
  • Track outcome - No urgent action. Opens the prompt's page with its check results.

Mission Page Tabs

  • Overview - Priority, page status, source gap, how recent the data is, how many platforms cite you, Next best move, and Owned-page candidates: the pages on your domain matched to this prompt, each with a match score. Use Set primary or Exclude on a candidate and Strengthen page on the Primary page. View page shows that page's audit findings, the prompts mapped to it and its citations.
  • Citations - The pages AI answers linked to for this prompt, and how many of those answers named your brand.
  • Source plays - The source opportunities linked to this prompt. When there are none, Find source plays opens the Opportunities tab on Sources.
  • Changes - The changes logged against this prompt with their verification status, and Log change manually.

Using a Page You Already Published

On the Overview tab, click Propose a page, paste the URL and click Link page. The URL must be on your site's domain. The page becomes the Primary page for this prompt.

Viewers can read missions but can't change their status. See Roles & Permissions. A connected AI agent can list missions, set a status and log a change. See the tools reference.
